HOW CAN THERAPY HELP?
Do you notice yourself making the same mistakes in your life? Have you been in a relationship that didn't work out, or have things got difficult at work? Is this making you sad, "down", or anxious?
Or do you feel anxiety with other people, or stress when you need to do things that seem simple for others to do? Does this make you feel bad about yourself?
Counselling can help you to get clearer about your feelings. It can help you to feel less stress, as you have somewhere to think about how your past affects your present. There is time and a safe place for you to allow your real feelings to arise, without being judged. This can reduce anxiety . Counselling can help you explore ways of approaching the future with more awareness and greater understanding of yourself, and your relationship with others.
This can help you to see more clearly the choices you have in your life, and that you may be able to make choices that bring greater satisfaction. This is likely to help you feel more in control of your actions, which can reduce feelings of depression.
Counselling and Psychotherapy are confidential and provide a safe, supportive and
non-judgemental way of looking at personal issues.
I will work with you on the areas you want to understand and improve, including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Self-esteem
- Relationship Issues
- Anger
- Bereavement
- Stress
- Panic Attacks
- High Functioning Autism (Asperger's Syndrome)
- Sexuality
- Work Issues
- Redundancy
- Family issues
- Abuse
- Identity
- Personal Development
HOW I WORK
I work with different approaches aiming to help you understand and grow in ways helpful to you.
If you want to focus on current difficulties, we can look at what is happening with your thoughts, feelings and actions in the situation. We can look at the interactions between these, how they relate to the wider aspects of the situation, and any possible changes that may be helpful.
If you are concerned about issues from earlier in your life,we might spend time allowing your feelings and thoughts about these issues to become acknowledged. The aim would be to help you "work through" the experiences, gaining more awareness and understanding of yourself, to help reduce the impact of the emotional pain of the past on your current life.
I believe that we are each a unique and complex expression of life, and I will work with you to help you explore and express more of your reality.
The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.

DREAMS IN THERAPY
Dreams can seem surprising, strange, even nonsensical; or simply dismissed as "left-overs" from daily life. Although dreams may make use of daytime experiences, I have found that dreams can often give clients helpful information in the counselling and psychotherapy. I see our night-time dreams as often coming from a deeper place in ourselves than is available to our "day-time" selves. If you would like to, we could look at any dreams which seem important to you, as part of the work in therapy.
HIGH FUNCTIONING AUTISM (ASPERGER'S SYNDROME)
If you have, or may have, High Functioning Autism (Asperger's Syndrome), I can offer a calm and non-judgemental approach.
- We can discuss what you might find helpful.
- I aim to help you develop your understanding of situations.
- We can look at ways of coping with the difficulties you experience.
- I also encourage focus on your strengths and individuality.
- Please contact me by email if you do not wish to phone.
